Roofing and Restoration in Goshen, KY

Goshen was founded in 1849 as Saltillo and took its new name in 1851, after the biblical Land of Goshen, a nod to the good soil here. Today the area is horse country. Thoroughbred farms line US 42, the road once called the Derby Highway, including Hermitage Farm, home of 1953 Kentucky Derby winner Dark Star. Nearby Woodland Farm covers about 1,000 acres and is the largest Kentucky property on the National Register of Historic Places. Part of its main house was built by Thomas Barbour around 1840.

The City of Goshen itself is small, about 0.2 square miles with 892 residents in 2020, and it incorporated in 1990. Around it, the Goshen area has grown with subdivisions such as Harmony Landing, Goshen Hills and Settlers Point, and newer communities like Longwood have been built among the horse farms. The 168-acre Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve keeps a big piece of the woods and creeks open to everyone.

Falls City Contracting is a veteran-owned, family-operated contractor in Louisville. Our crew works on houses, barns and outbuildings in Goshen, from the roof down to the chimney and brick.

Subdivision Homes, Farmhouses and Horse Barns

Goshen has a wide mix of roofs: newer subdivision homes, older farmhouses, and horse barns, run-in sheds and equipment buildings out on the farms. On newer homes, we look at valleys, step flashing and pipe boots, since that's where wear tends to show up first. Loose granules in the gutters, curled or cracked shingles, popped nails and split rubber boots around vent pipes all point to a roof getting near the end of its life. If your subdivision has an HOA, we can give you the product name, color and spec sheet to include with your request.

On older farmhouses we look for what can be repaired before we talk about replacing anything, and a cracked chimney crown can usually be rebuilt without taking the rest of the chimney apart. Where water piles up behind a wide chimney, a cricket sends it around instead of into the roof. On barns and outbuildings, we check for loose or missing metal panels, backed-out fasteners and rust.

Tornado and Wind Damage in Goshen

Goshen knows what a storm can do. Just before midnight on April 28, 2017, an EF-1 tornado with peak winds near 95 mph developed in a newer Goshen subdivision and tracked about a mile east-northeast. The National Weather Service found numerous trees snapped or uprooted, power lines down, and roof damage to a couple of houses and two church buildings. With so many mature trees and open pastures around Goshen, wind is something every roof here has to stand up to.

If a storm opens up a house, barn or shed roof, our crew can tarp it to keep water out until it can be repaired. Once things settle, we'll inspect every roof on the property and document what we find with photos. If you decide to file an insurance claim, we can offer help navigating the claims process.

  • Do you serve the areas around Goshen too?

Yes. We serve Goshen along with Prospect, Crestwood, La Grange, Buckner and the rest of Oldham County. Call and we'll confirm for your address.

  • Do you work on barn and outbuilding roofs?

Yes. We repair and replace roofs on barns, sheds, detached garages and other outbuildings, including metal roofs, and we can look at them during the same visit as your home.

  • Can you replace a shingle roof with metal?

Yes. We install both architectural shingle and metal roofing. At your free inspection, we'll go over how each one fits your home, your budget and the look you want.

  • Should I have my roof checked after a storm even if I can't see damage?

It's a good idea. Lifted or creased shingles, loose metal panels and damaged flashing are hard to spot from the ground. A free inspection will tell you what, if anything, needs attention.
