Roofing and Restoration in Crestwood & Pewee Valley, KY

Crestwood and Pewee Valley grew up a few miles apart along the Louisville & Frankfort Railroad. Pewee Valley began as Smith's Station and was renamed for the eastern wood pewee, even though the town sits on a ridge. It became a summer retreat of shaded avenues and later the setting for Annie Fellows Johnston's Little Colonel books. Crestwood started as Beard's Station, was renamed in 1909 for its spot on the crest of a wooded ridge, and stayed mostly farmland until the late 1960s.

Pewee Valley's Ashwood Avenue and Central Avenue historic districts hold houses from the late 1800s into the 1930s, ranging from Queen Anne and Italianate to Colonial Revival, bungalows and English cottages. Crestwood took off after public water arrived in 1965 and I-71 was built in 1969. Clorecrest was one of the first subdivisions on the new water lines, and today the city also takes in neighborhoods like Brentwood, Spring Hill, Summerfield and Williamsgate. The city grew from about 2,000 residents in 2000 to more than 6,000 in 2020, and farmland still sits among the neighborhoods and around the edges of town.

Falls City Contracting is a veteran-owned, family-operated contractor in Louisville. Our crew works on houses, barns and outbuildings in Crestwood and Pewee Valley, from the roof down to the chimney and brick.

Historic Homes and Growing Subdivisions

Pewee Valley's older homes often have steep roofs, wide porches and brick chimneys that have been through a lot of weather. On these houses we look for what can be repaired before we talk about replacing anything, and a cracked chimney crown can usually be rebuilt without taking the rest of the chimney apart. Where water piles up behind a wide chimney, a cricket sends it around instead of into the roof.

In Crestwood's subdivisions, plenty of homes still have the shingles that went on when the house was built. Loose granules in the gutters, curled or cracked shingles, popped nails and split rubber boots around vent pipes all point to a roof getting near the end of its life. If your subdivision has an HOA, we can give you the product name, color and spec sheet to include with your request.

Ridge-Top Wind, Tornadoes and Farm Roofs

Both towns sit up on high ground, and strong storms have crossed this stretch of Oldham County more than once. On April 12, 2019, an EF-1 tornado with peak winds near 100 mph touched down near Pewee Valley and tracked 8.3 miles across the county. West of Crestwood it lifted a front porch on Shelburn Drive and threw half the roof about 100 yards, and roof damage was reported in Crestwood itself. Less than a year earlier, on June 26, 2018, another EF-1 crossed the east side of Pewee Valley and twisted trees on a farm along Hawley Gibson Road.

If a storm opens up a house, barn or shed roof, our crew can tarp it to keep water out until it can be repaired. Once things settle, we'll inspect every roof on the property and document what we find with photos. If you decide to file an insurance claim, we can offer help navigating the claims process.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you serve the areas around Crestwood and Pewee Valley too?

Yes. We serve both towns and nearby Oldham County communities such as Buckner, Brownsboro and La Grange. Call and we'll confirm for your address.

  • Do you work on barn and outbuilding roofs?

Yes. We repair and replace roofs on barns, sheds, detached garages and other outbuildings, including metal roofs, and we can look at them during the same visit as your home.

  • Can you repair the roof on an older Pewee Valley home instead of replacing it?

Often, yes. Many older roofs only need damaged pieces replaced and flashing updated. We'll tell you plainly whether a repair or a replacement makes more sense.

  • Should I have my roof checked after a storm even if I can't see damage?

It's a good idea. Lifted or creased shingles and loose flashing are hard to spot from the ground. A free inspection will tell you what, if anything, needs attention.

  • Do you offer financing?

Yes. We offer financing through Acorn Finance, and we can walk you through the options at your free inspection.
