Roofing and Restoration in Anchorage, KY
Anchorage started out as Hobbs' Station, a stop on the Louisville & Frankfort Railroad, and later took its name from "The Anchorage," the home of riverboat captain James W. Goslee. The city incorporated in 1878, and by tradition the anchor set in a locomotive wheel at the center of town came from his boat. In 1914 the Olmsted firm was brought in to plan the town, and its plan is the reason Anchorage has stone bridges, narrow curving roads and small triangle intersections.
Anchorage began as a place for summer homes, and its large estates were divided up over time; the number of houses nearly doubled between 1977 and 1997. Today about 850 homes share roughly three square miles. Much of the city is in the Anchorage Historic District, where houses from the 1890s like the Queen Anne and Shingle Style Coldeway House stand on roads such as Evergreen, Bellewood and Hazelwood, alongside newer homes on lots carved from the old estates.
Falls City Contracting is a veteran-owned, family-operated contractor in Louisville. Our crew takes on roof replacement and repair, chimney and masonry work, gutters and siding for Anchorage homeowners.
Historic Houses and Large Estate Homes
Older Anchorage houses tend to have steep roofs, several gables and tall brick chimneys. On a house like that, we try to repair what's worth keeping, match materials where we can, and use mortar suited to old brick when we tuckpoint. Newer homes built on former estate land are often large too, with long valleys, dormers and more than one chimney, and every one of those spots needs sound flashing.
Anchorage has its own historic preservation ordinance and commission, so exterior changes inside the historic district may need the city's review before work begins. If you're changing your roof's material or look, check with the city first, and we'll give you the product name, color and spec sheet to share.

Old Trees and Strong Storms
The tree canopy over Anchorage's winding roads is a big part of its character, but old trees drop heavy limbs in storms and fill gutters and valleys with leaves. On May 26, 2024, the National Weather Service found straight-line winds of 75 to 80 mph along a 12-mile path through Jefferson and Oldham counties that uprooted large oaks, and local news reported heavy tree damage in Anchorage near Ward Avenue and Old Harrods Creek Road.
If wind or a falling limb opens up the roof, our crew can tarp it to keep water out until it can be repaired. Once the weather clears, we'll inspect the roof and document what we find with photos. If you decide to file an insurance claim, we can offer help navigating the claims process.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you also work in Lyndon, Middletown and Prospect?
Yes. We serve Anchorage and the surrounding parts of eastern Jefferson County and Oldham County. Call and we'll confirm for your address.
My house is in the historic district. Do I need approval for a new roof?
It may. Anchorage's historic preservation commission reviews exterior changes in the district, especially when the material or look changes. Check with the city first, and we'll provide the product details they ask for.
Can you repair my slate roof instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. Many slate roofs only need broken or slipped pieces replaced and flashing updated. We'll tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense.
Our road is narrow and winding. Where does the dumpster go?
We look at the site before work starts and plan where materials and the dumpster will go, with care for your trees, lawn and landscaping. We keep the jobsite clean and organized from start to finish.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. We offer financing through Acorn Finance, and we can walk you through the options at your free inspection.
