Roofing and Restoration in Douglass Hills, KY
Douglass Hills takes its name from Col. James J. Douglass, a horseman and whiskey blender whose farm, Douglass Place, took in part of these hills south of Shelbyville Road from 1896 to 1917. His mansion sat atop the hills facing the road, and a springhouse from the old farm still stands. Before that, Union and Confederate troops skirmished here in September 1862, and a historical marker on US 60 tells the story. In December 1964 a development company formed to subdivide a 313-acre tract south of US 60 near Middletown, and the city incorporated in 1973.
Homes went up from the 1960s into the 1980s, and today the city's 1.3 square miles hold more than 1,000 houses plus condominiums and apartments. You'll find brick ranches, two-stories and tri-levels, with brick, stone, aluminum, vinyl and wood on the outside, and larger homes in sections like Douglass Hills Estates. Mature trees shade much of the city.
Falls City Contracting is a veteran-owned, family-operated contractor in Louisville. Our crew takes on roof replacement and repair, chimney and masonry work, gutters and siding for Douglass Hills homeowners.
Ranches, Tri-Levels and Original Roofs
A tri-level or split-level house has more roof lines than it looks like from the street. Where a lower roof runs into the wall of a taller section, step flashing and counter flashing keep water out, and those joints are some of the first places we check when we trace a leak. On long, low ranch roofs, we look closely at the valleys, the ridge and the pipe boots, since that's where wear tends to show up first.
With so many homes built between the 1960s and the 1980s, a lot of roofs here have seen plenty of weather. Loose granules in the gutters, curled or cracked shingles, popped nails and split rubber boots around vent pipes all point to a roof getting near the end of its life. If your house has a brick chimney, a cracked crown can usually be rebuilt without taking the rest of the chimney apart. If your condo association or subdivision has an HOA, we can give you the product name, color and spec sheet to include with your request.

Mature Trees and Straight-Line Wind
Douglass Hills cares about its trees. The city has a Tree Committee, applied to become a Tree City USA, and has said it is committed to growing its tree canopy. Big trees bring shade, and they also bring falling limbs when strong wind comes through. On May 26, 2024, the National Weather Service surveyed a 12-mile path of 75–80 mph straight-line winds that started just northeast of Jeffersontown and ran north into western Oldham County. The survey team found many large limbs down and uprooted trees, including big oaks, and debris littered the streets of Middletown.
If wind or a falling limb opens up the roof, our crew can tarp it to keep water out until it can be repaired. Once the weather clears, we'll inspect the roof and document what we find with photos. If you decide to file an insurance claim, we can offer help navigating the claims process.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you serve the areas around Douglass Hills too?
Yes. We serve Douglass Hills along with Middletown, Lake Forest, Anchorage and the rest of eastern Louisville. Call and we'll confirm for your address.
Can you work on a condo or townhome roof?
Yes. We can inspect and repair condo and townhome roofs. If your association takes care of the roof, we'll give them the product details and photos they need to make a decision.
A limb came down on my roof. What should I do first?
Stay clear of any damaged area and call us. Our crew can tarp the roof to keep water out, then we'll inspect it and document what we find with photos.
Is my tri-level harder to roof than a ranch?
It takes more care, not more guesswork. Tri-levels have extra roof-to-wall joints, so we pay close attention to the flashing where each roof section meets the next.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. We offer financing through Acorn Finance, and we can walk you through the options at your free inspection.
